EPI Thermal Dispersion Mass Flow Meter

EPI™ flow meters are immersion type inferential mass flow meters utilizing constant temperature thermal dispersion sensor technology. The rate of heat absorbed from the sensor by the flowing gas molecules contacting the sensor is proportional to the gas mass velocity. Mass flow rate is this mass velocity passing through a fixed area. By math, mass velocity x area = mass flow. Sensor construction consists of two matched, reference-grade platinum Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs) sheathed in rugged thin wall 316 stainless steel thermo wells. The only materials exposed to the process gas stream are 316 SS (or optional Hastelloy C276).

The sensors’ RTDs are temperature corrective and operate at a constant power differential. The flow sensor is heated, while the second sensor acts as a temperature reference, taking on the temperature of the flowing process gas. The flow meter’s digital electronics maintain the balance the two the flow sensing elements. Within a wide range, the sensor has pressure corrective properties since the molecular density will increase or decrease proportionally with pressure and so the sensor is insensitive to typical process pressure changes. As a result, no external temperature or pressure corrections are required to achieve accurate flow measurements.

As heat is dispersed from the flow sensor to the moving gas stream during the NIST-traceable calibration process, we closely measure both the gas flow and the amount of power required to maintain the correct temperature differential between the heated and unheated sensors. The power required to maintain this balance — the flow signal — is a non-linear function of flow rate. This flow signal is linearized by the unique coefficients stored in the flow meter’s microprocessor, and the flow meter provides a true mass flow output.

We do our flow calibrations using a variety of gases in order to match our customers needs. Any gas that is not specifically on our list can in most cases be substituted with another gas or mixture of gases.

Gases on our list include, Air, Argon, Ethylene, Ethane, Propane, Methane, Carbon Dioxide, Helium, Nitrogen. Methane is use as a substitute gas for Natural Gas. Air is used as a substitute gas for Oxygen. Other mixes determined based on customer gas composition.

The Worlds Only Clamp-On Steam Flow Meter:  FLUXUS ST

With FLUXUS ST, clamp-on steam measurement is now available for the very first time – as FLEXIM continues to push the boundaries and to set the standards.

Non-invasive and efficient

FLUXUS ST measures steam flow non-invasively from the outside of the pipe. Non-invasive steam flow measurement means measuring without any interruption of operation and supply. Since clamp-on ultra-sonic transducers are simply mounted on the outside of the pipe, it requires just minimal installation effort and no opening of the pipeline.

The acoustic measuring method proves to be impressive with its exceptionally high measuring dynamics, is highly sensitive even at very low flow velocities and functions independently of the flow direction. Due to this large flow range (flow velocities from 0.03 ft/s up to 200 ft/s), there is no need to reduce pipe diameter to fit an inline meter’s requirement of minimum flow velocity. Moreover, the non-invasive measurement does not cause any pressure loss. The transducer mountings can be completely insulated to reduce any heat loss to the environment.

With FLUXUS ST, for the first time ever, it is possible to capture all steam usage from very low to very high flow rates with one meter size.

Completely maintenance-free

Non-invasive steam flow measurement also means measuring without direct contact with the medium flowing in the pipe. FLUXUS ST has no moving parts. Its ultrasonic transducers are fixed to the pipe with broad stainless steel straps and secured in robust stainless steel housings. They are connected to the pipe with permanent coupling pads, instead of coupling gel that can deteriorate or be washed away. Therefore, FLUXUS ST is not subjected to wear and tear and does not require any maintenance.

FLUXUS ST measures volume and mass flow of saturated and superheated steam at temperatures up to 356 °F. The clamp-on ultrasound system is available as both a stationary and a portable meter.

FLUXUS® F721 - The ultrasonic flow meter for permanent installation

With one or two flow channels and versatile electrical inputs and outputs, Ethernet and USB, the FLUXUS F721 can optimally be configured to your application needs, measuring and handling a variety of process parameters.

The FLUXUS F721 features a robust metal field housing. Its clamp-on flow transducers are simply mounted onto the pipe from the outside and are thus installed quickly, without any process interruption and without any production stop.

Since the flowmeter's transducers are not in contact with the medium to be measured, they are not submitted to wear and tear. Transducers for the common pipe diameters (0,25 to 500 inches feet) and temperatures ranges (from -275°F to 1100°F) as well as hazardous zones (FM and ATEX) are available.

The measurement is pressure independent and can take place on pipes of almost any materials and on almost any liquid.

The flowmeter is the ideal instrument for monitoring chemically aggressive, toxic or just media that you want to keep inside the pipe.

Thanks to its exceptional dual-uP technology, the high number of measuring cycles per second, and the adaptive signal processing, the FLUXUS® F721 produces stable and reliable measuring results even under difficult conditions.

No zeroing procedure is necessary at the commissioning since all transducer pairs are factory calibrated and the calibration data is permanently stored in the transducers themselves (EPROM).

An extended status display helps the user to judge the measuring situation and the current accuracy directly during the measurement.

The FLUXUS F721 is delivered with one or two flow measurement channels. Additionally, it can be equipped with various outputs and up to 4 process inputs. The input quantities (e.g. temperature or pressure) can be used by the flowmeter together with the measured flow for the calculation of further quantities: e.g. energy, mass flow, etc.
